Men of (Vaguely) African Descent In Boston
by Matt
Damn, a nigga sad. It looks like my search for a job is finally wrapping up. At this point I've had interviews for five different positions (with a 6th tomorrow), sent 238 applications, been ghosted by like 2/3 of the places I've applied to, and actually gotten two offers (one to be an administrative assistant and the other to sell insurance and I'm not doing that shit). Likely I'll be doing research at one of the hospitals in Boston and living with Myles, because you can't win them all. It'll be good to get back to Beantown and out of this fucking basement. I'm also getting ready for Caitlin's 21st birthday which is tough due to there still being a deadly virus everywhere. If I may now quote pop star, Justin Bieber, "Fuck Bill Clinton." Amen.

So my life hasn’t been so interesting, but I’m currently in my grad MSW program learning about some shit. My readings are actually pretty interesting but they’re starting to pile up and my brain is like... E (for meme and for empty). Sorry if this makes no sense but that’s where my head is atm. This week I’ll be at Bridgets old house watching buki so that’s a vibe. Maybe we should try to coordinate and group zoom call again and bullshit.
Bad Date
by Tim
So I went on a date tonight. We met on Hinge. She lives 2 hours away (yes my radius is that large, i’m ugly as fuck) so we met halfway for dinner. She wanted to meet but we had like 4 word convos on Hinge, but what do I have to lose. So we go, I naturally get a beer, she didn’t like that, but she got a cider. Very nice girl. Very white. From Illinois. Went to a Christian college. Asked if I go to church, I did not lie. I also cursed, that got a sour face too. Needless to say, she headed home in the following car. Well at least I tried.

Road to 200! And Also Fuck Amazon.
by Askia
Yerrrr! My vinyl collection and page is really growing. I have so much coming in and as some of you saw, completed my RTJ collection. (Plz keep sharing I wanna get to 200 followers!) Very exciting. I quit my Amazon job. Fuck that place. Who knows where I'll end up next.
A Difficult, But Good Decision
by James
In case some of you didn't hear, Amanda and I broke up. It was a hard decision but ultimately I feel like the best decision for me. Thanks everyone who's been here for me during all of this. Sometimes you just have to say fuck it I need to put myself first. Other than that, took a few days off from slinging that Liquor to take a family vacation out to Hawley, Pa. we are staying on a lake so it's pretty nice and relaxing. Back to the real world on Thursday. P.S Who wants to form a trivia team for Emma's fundraiser?

Embezzling Prize Money
by Nick
so this weekend was full of life events. On Friday and Saturday, I competed with my business partner Dave with our startup, Smarta. We ended up winning first place and a industry disruptor award, totalling $21,500! We were shaking. This money, with the money Dave is putting into the company, will take us all the way to our product launch in September 2021, so that's hella lit. Then, I sold the Ford Focus because ya boy is now paying car insurance and couldn't afford the insurance on that car. Sold it to a nice Marine vet in Central NY for a $4,000 and took that money straight to Honda for a down payment on a Civic. Check out the new baby in the pics below. Name ideas?? ALSO, bought a bong and I did not realize how powerful that shit is. 3 hits and I was knocked.

2020.09.10 23:17 omgthehugemanatee $16,350 - 45 Person MN Wedding Budget Recap

We already got our sneak peak from our 9.5.20 wedding (what you’re all really here for and I thought I'd share a budget breakdown (including our original estimates from our wedding! We were engaged in September 2019 and had a 12 month engagement. Our original plan was to invite 200 people and had already sent our save the dates when COVID-19 blew up. When we sent our formal invitations out we cut it down to 75 people (our immediate family, wedding party and their SOs, grandparents and aunts and uncles knowing that there were quite a few that wouldn’t be able to attend as we wanted to keep it closer to 50 for safety reasons. We sent everyone else a virtual invite to watch via Facebook.)))
I used The Knot for keeping track of our guest list and gifts and created a budget spreadsheet for tracking all our wedding costs and making checklists for things to be completed as we got closer to our big day.
**Numbers:*\*
Invited: 75
RSVP’d Yes: 45
RSVP’d No: 30
RSVP'd yes but did not attend: 1
Our original plan was to invite 200 people and had already sent our save the dates when COVID-19 blew up. When we sent our formal invitations out we cut it down to 75 people (our immediate family, wedding party and their SOs, grandparents and aunts and uncles knowing that there were quite a few that wouldn’t be able to attend as we wanted to keep it closer to 50 for safety reasons. We sent everyone else a virtual invite to watch via Facebook.)
**Budget:*\*
Original: $21,295
Actual: $16,350
I figured after we had to gut our in person invites we would save a lot of money – but in reality there were a lot of set costs regardless of how many people were there (venue, photographer, etc. We did still come in a little under 5k under budget which I was happy with because I never thought I would be one of those people to spend this much on a wedding. Prior to getting engaged I always said I could do it for under 10k but after finding the venue, photographer we wanted (pictures were very important to both of us I knew that wasn’t going to happen unless I wanted to change my expectations. I did splurge on little things closer to the end – but that was after I knew we were coming in under budget.))
Our priorities going into the planning process were as follows:
Bridal Attire, total: $1,212 (estimate: $1,625)
Wedding Dress: $920.00 (estimate: $1,000)
Alterations - $162 (estimate: $500)
Jewelry, Shapewear, Shoes, etc - $130(estimate: $125)
Groom’s Attire, total: $660.00 (estimate: $500)
Suit- $400 (estimate: $300)
Accessories - $125 (estimate $100)
Dress Shirt - $135 (estimate $0)
Stationary, total: $815.64 (estimate: $450)
Save The Dates – $60(estimate: $100)
Invites – $260(estimate: $150)
Stamps - $152 (estimate: $200)
Venue, total: $4,350 (estimate: $5,000)
The Hitching Post(Detroit Lakes, MN – $4,000 (estimate $5,000))
I did a ton of research getting quotes before we even went to look at a venue because I didn’t want to fall in love with a place that was going to cost an arm and a leg. My friend is a wedding videographer and actually suggested I check into this place as he had never heard of it before he shot a wedding there. It’s hidden away on some back roads in lake country – and is a two story barn able to hold up to $350. There were quite a few features I loved about this place:
  1. Wedding could be inside or outside (no need to worry about weather)
  2. It was all DIY but had pretty much anything you needed at no extra cost. Tables and chairs of all sizes, tablecloths, table décor, arches, chandeliers, signs, vases, lights – you name it. You could set it up however you wanted! I even left some of the décor I bought myself so the next lucky couple could use what they wanted.
  3. Sound system included. Had we not gutted our in person invites we would have still had a DJ – but this was a great option as we didn’t have to buy any sound equipment to do our own music/MC.
  4. Cabins on site – Cabins were available for an additional charge so the entire bridal party could stay on site for the entire weekend!
Event Insurance - $350(estimate: $0)
Food & Bar, total: $2,553 (estimate: $4,490)
Catering - $1,060 (estimate: $2,600)
Plates, Napkins, Cutlery - $202 (estimate $100)
Chips and Water from Costco - $45 (estimate $80)

Things that didn’t go so well:
The months leading up to our wedding was very stressful for both of us. On top of the pandemic – my brother suffered a broken neck and traumatic brain injury from a motorcycle accident 6 weeks before our wedding, and my husband’s mom had a stroke two week prior. Thankfully both were able to attend and we were even more thankful they were there. The wedding weekend was amazing – you could tell we all needed some quality time with our loved ones. While it was small - it was full of the people we are closest to and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Everyone was very respectful about wearing masks inside the venue day of and being cognizant social distancing before and after our special day.

2020.09.10 23:08 lurker072294 Would it be shitty to take a small weekend trip around an upcoming family wedding that we RSVPed no to?

This post is gonna contain too much detail probably and I’m sorry for that. TL;DR: my fiancé and I have a family wedding coming up that we decided not to attend, wondering if they’re gonna get pissed if we go on a small local trip around the same time.
Growing up, I never really got to travel. My family had unhealthy issues with my brothers’ sports and so every weekend was games or practices and every “vacation” was just an out of town sports tournament. Last year, at age 25, I finally had the money and time to do some traveling and I really fell in love with experiencing other places. I caught the travel bug in a big way. There were a bunch of trips on deck for this year too, but understandably that didn’t pan out like I had hoped.
One of those trips was across the country for my fiancé’s cousins wedding. They were very close as kids, and maintain loose contact as adults; I met him on one of our trips last year and really hit it off with him and his bride-to-be. We were really looking forward to the trip... but, here’s the thing.
They’re in the south, in a state that is not handling the pandemic very well. Because of this, my fiancé and I would both have to quarantine upon returning from the trip. Neither of us have enough paid time off, nor quarantine pay, available through work, as we took jobs with smaller companies and shittier benefits because it was all we could get during the pandemic. We genuinely just can not afford to fly across the country, get a hotel, and then not work for two weeks. I work with food, he works in people’s houses, we don’t have a choice but to follow the quarantine guidelines. After talking it over for a while, we decided to RSVP no and build them a really special wedding gift that we’ll be sending with his mom when she goes.
However... we’re both getting really antsy. He’s always been a traveler, I’ve been really bummed that I basically found this thing I loved that I can’t do anymore. We want a change of scenery and a break. We found a hotel in a small town not far from where we are that had insanely cheap dates for a weekend that we both happened to have off from work. Because it’s so close to where we live, we wouldn’t have to quarantine and the overall cost is obviously substantially lower. That weekend is about three weeks before the wedding.
Is it in bad taste to go on this little trip right before basically refusing to travel for a family event like a wedding? His family is southern and big on etiquette, I just don’t know if it’s going to look bad that we’re making this trip happen but not the wedding. His little sister would have to watch our cats, so it’s not like we can just not post pictures and not tell anyone we went.
Maybe I’m reading too far into this though. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Thanks to anyone who read this far.
